5-0 defeat for Under-17s in Malta

Northern Ireland have lost their opening game of qualifying for the UEFA Under 17 Championships.

Stephen Frail's side suffered a 5-0 defeat to Switzerland in the first game of the four team mini tournament in Malta with a second half hat trick from Uros Vasic.

The Swiss took the lead after 13 minutes through Captain Julian Vonmoos and they doubled their lead just four minutes later with a goal from fellow forward Felix Khonde Mambimbi.

In the second half it was the turn of the substitute to cause the damage as Vasic scored his first on 63 minutes. He soon doubled his tally just four minutes later.

He finished off the scoring with his third just eight minutes from time.

The Under 17s next face Belgium on Sunday before finishing their qualifiers next Wednesday against Malta.
