Magennis says it's a boost to score against the 'best team in the world'

Josh Magennis scored a late consolation goal against World Champions Germany in front of a sold out crowd at the National Stadium at Windsor Park tonight.

Magennis said: "For me they are the best in the world and deservedly so. We started well but after a few minutes he's absolutely put one in the top corner and there's nothing you can do about that."

Northern Ireland lost the match 3-1 but the late goal was a big bonus for players and fans alike.

Magennis went on to say: "It's always nice to finish the game on a high and hopefully the fans will remember the goal going in regardless of who scored it.

"We showed that we can put teams of this calibre under pressure and it's a massive boost for us even though we lost."

Germany have now qualified for the World Cup in Russia as winners of Group C. Northern Ireland sit in second place and can secure a play-off spot when they play Norway on Sunday.
