Evans scores first in 2-0 win against Czech Republic

Jonny Evans said the atmosphere inside the National Football Stadium at Windsor Park tonight was “fantastic” as Northern Ireland beat Czech Republic 2-0 to seal second place in FIFA World Cup qualifying Group C.

Evans scored the opening goal with a close range header before Chris Brunt bent a freekick around the Czech wall, past goalkeeper Vaclík and into the bottom corner to give the home team a 2-0 advantage on 41 minutes.

And that’s how it ended as Northern Ireland move another step closer to confirming a World Cup play-off fixture in November.
