UK & Ireland submit ‘expression of interest’ to host UEFA Euro 2028

The Football Associations of England, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Scotland and Wales have today submitted a joint ‘Expression of Interest’ (EOI) to host UEFA EURO 2028.

The EOI submission, an important step in UEFA’s bidding process for the EURO, follows an extensive feasibility study which evaluated the hosting opportunities and local benefits of organising major international football events.

Government Partners have confirmed their support for the EOI submission, and officials in Northern Ireland continue to observe the process closely. With this new and unique partnership, we are taking the appropriate next steps and our ambition is to stage an amazing UEFA EURO which will be a wonderful celebration of football for European fans and teams.

As we enter the next phase of the bid process, we believeEURO 2028 will be one of the greatest sporting events in the UK & Ireland. Our proposed plan aims to offer European football something special with a new blueprint for success – a compact and unique multi-nation hosting model that prioritises sustainability and legacy benefits for all our communities.

Over the coming weeks, we will develop our proposals further, including engaging in discussions with possible host cities and stadia to define the optimum tournament model. The UK & Ireland will offer a best-in-class technical concept – with modern, well-connected stadia and excellent infrastructure that makes our partnership ideal to host UEFA EURO 2028.

Importantly, at this time of crisis for Europe following the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Government, football must do everything possible to show how our sport can be a force for good. We are resolute in our belief in the power of football to help bring people together and repair the divisions in the world that are driving communities apart.

We now look forward to receiving further tournament requirements and continuing our constructive dialogue with UEFA to advance our bid plans.
