WATCH | Shiels aims to treat play-off like 'normal' game

Northern Ireland senior women’s manager Kenny Shiels says his team are aiming to treat tonight’s huge UEFA Women’s Euro play-off against Ukraine as a ‘normal game’.

Tonight’s match is easily the biggest game in the history of women’s football in Northern Ireland and Shiels’ side go into the clash focused on building on the hard-fought one-goal advantage secured in Friday’s 2-1 win in the first leg.

“I think we’re trying our best to be as normal as we possibly can, like you would for a normal game – as opposed to thinking ‘if we can get a draw’; we can’t think like that,” Shiels said.

“The only main factor that’s there is Ukraine have to score two goals which is very possible but if we can get a goal then it’s three.

“We’re starting a football match one goal up and surely that’s an advantage for us but they are going to be harder to beat now than they were on Friday night.”
