Northern Ireland midfielder Brad Lyons has agreed to join Aberdeen on a two-year deal when his Kilmarnock contract expires next month.
The 29-year-old Northern Ireland international will officially move to Pittodrie on a free transfer, concluding a successful five-year stint at Rugby Park.
The move to Aberdeen reunites Lyons with manager Stephen Robinson, who previously coached the midfielder during his brief loan spell at St Mirren in 2019.
Lyons admitted that the opportunity to work with Robinson again made the decision straightforward.
“The manager is someone I know well,” he told the club’s website. “I know his passion for football, and I saw first-hand how good he was at getting results.
“When I spoke to him on the phone about the move, it was the best call I have ever had in football.”
“It feels amazing to be here,” added Lyons. “As soon as you see the set-up at the training ground, you realize the scale of the club. I just can't wait to get started and get in amongst the boys.
“Individually, my first task is to secure a starting spot in the team. Then I want to help the team as much as I can. Longer term, I want to win trophies. I know the club is capable of it.
“Those fans deserve it, and I can promise them that I will go out and give everything I have in every game.”
Lyons began his senior career with hometown club Coleraine, where he made 121 appearances and lifted the Irish Cup. His performances earned him a move to English side Blackburn Rovers in August 2018.
In his three years at Ewood Park, he gained valuable experience through loan spells at St Mirren and Morecambe. He eventually departed Blackburn without making a senior appearance to join Kilmarnock in the summer of 2021.
During his time in East Ayrshire, Lyons became a pivotal figure, helping the club secure promotion to the top flight and later captaining the side.
He has won eight senior caps for Northern Ireland since making his international debut in a 1-0 defeat to Slovenia in Belfast in October 2023.
