David Currie to depart after over 30 years of service

Irish FA Head of International Operations, David Currie, will leave his full-time role with the Association at the end of September 2026, after three decades of dedicated service to football in Northern Ireland.

Known by many as “DC”, David has been at the heart of the Association’s international operations for over 30 years, representing Northern Ireland with distinction across Europe and beyond while playing a key role behind the scenes across the national teams set up.

A respected figure, David has worked at more than 270 senior international matches, alongside hundreds of Under-21, women’s and youth fixtures and tournaments throughout his career.

His passion and commitment have made him an integral part of the wider football backroom team, particularly with the senior men’s side.

Speaking about his departure, David said:

“It has been a privilege to serve as Head of International Operations for the past 30 years and to work alongside so many dedicated colleagues, players and staff.

“I leave with immense pride, gratitude and so many wonderful memories. The friendships formed and experiences shared over the years are something I will always treasure.

Among many memorable moments during his career, David cites UEFA Euro 2016 in France as the standout highlight, having played a significant role in the planning and organisation surrounding Northern Ireland’s participation at the tournament.

“I would like to sincerely thank everyone I have worked with for their support, professionalism and friendship throughout my time with the Association, and I wish everyone connected with the Irish FA continued success for the future.”
