Colin McKendry has been elected as new Irish FA President following the Association’s Annual General Meeting.
A highly respected figure within Northern Ireland football, McKendry succeeds Conrad Kirkwood and brings with him extensive experience from across the game.
McKendry has served on the Irish FA Board since 2021 and most recently held the position of Second Deputy President. He is currently the Board’s Anti-Doping Champion and has played an active role in supporting the development and governance of football across Northern Ireland.
Away from the Irish FA, McKendry was until recently a Board Member of Coleraine FC, having previously served as Chairman of the club for 14 years before stepping aside earlier this year. He also serves as Vice Chairman of the Northern Ireland Football League (NIFL) and represents Coleraine FC on the Premiership Management Committee.
Beyond football, McKendry has supported several major sporting events through the McKendry Group, including the Super Cup NI tournament and the North West 200.
Speaking following his appointment, McKendry said:
“It is a tremendous honour and privilege to be appointed President of the Irish Football Association.
“Football has been a central part of my life for many years, and I am proud to have served the game in a variety of roles. I look forward to working alongside the Board, staff, clubs and stakeholders across Northern Ireland as we continue to grow and strengthen our game.
“There is much to be optimistic about, from participation and facilities development to the continued progress of our international teams. I am excited about the opportunities ahead and committed to supporting football at every level.”
Irish FA Chief Executive Patrick Nelson said:
"I would like to congratulate Colin McKendry on his appointment.
"Colin has given outstanding service to football over many years and brings experience, passion and commitment. I look forward to working with him and wish him every success during his term as President."
McKendry will be joined by Maurice Johnston from the Mid Ulster Football Association as First Deputy President and David Morrow from the County Antrim Football Association as Second Deputy President.
