Women’s Under-19s to face Scotland in Euro qualifiers

The Northern Ireland Women’s Under-19 team will face Scotland, Austria and Belarus in League A in the first round of qualifiers for WU19 Euro 2027.

The WU19s retained their League A status back in April after finishing third in League A Group 7 in the second round of qualifiers for this year’s WU19 Euros, which are due to be staged in Bosnia and Herzegovina later this month.

For round one of the 2026-27 edition of the competition - next year’s finals will be held in Hungary - 28 teams were drawn into seven groups of four teams in League A, with the games played as one-venue mini tournaments.

Third seeds Northern Ireland will be in League A Group 1 along with top seeds and mini tournament hosts Austria, with the games taking place between 28 November and 4 December. Scotland are second seeds in the group and Belarus the fourth seeds.

Fourth-placed teams in the seven League A groups will be relegated to League B for Round 2 next spring.

In the second round of qualifiers League A will decide the seven teams joining hosts Hungary in the final tournament, which will also act as UEFA's qualifier for the 2028 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. The seven group winners and the Hungarians will be competing for the WU19 Euros trophy (pictured).

Meanwhile, the draw has also taken place for part one of the WU17 Euro 2027 qualifiers.

Northern Ireland will be competing in League A this autumn following their strong showing in this year’s WU17 Euros, which were hosted in Northern Ireland by the Irish Football Association with support from UEFA. During the final tournament Gail Redmond’s side defeated eventual champions Germany in a group game.

This autumn – between 7 and 13 October – they will be competing in League A Group 1 in round one of the qualifiers for WU17 Euro 2027.

Northern Ireland’s opponents will be top seeds and mini tournament hosts Norway, second seeds Austria and third seeds Italy.

Fourth-placed teams in the seven League A groups will be relegated to League B for Round 2 next spring.

In the second round of qualifiers League A will decide the seven teams joining hosts Finland in the final tournament, which will also act as UEFA's qualifier for the 2027 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Morocco. The seven group winners and the Finns will be competing for the WU17 Euros trophy.
