Irish FA continues dialogue over Georgia UNL fixture

The Irish Football Association is encouraging Northern Ireland supporters not to book any travel to Georgia ahead of the UEFA Nations League fixture scheduled for 25 September this year.

It has revealed it is in ongoing dialogue with UEFA about the fixture, which will kick off Northern Ireland’s campaign in League B in the UNL this autumn.

The away match against the Georgians is currently scheduled to be played behind closed doors after UEFA imposed sanctions on the Georgian FA following multiple breaches of UEFA regulations and crowd disorder from a game against Armenia last year.

The Irish FA has issued a letter to fans which also reveals that the League B Group 2 away fixture against Ukraine scheduled for 2 October will not be played in Ukraine.

The letter reads:

“On Friday we learned that our upcoming UEFA Nations League fixture away to Georgia on 25 September is currently scheduled to be played behind closed doors.

“We know some of our fans will have made travel arrangements and we encourage fans not to make any bookings in relation to the game from this point.

“If you (or your group) booked travel on Friday, please email georgia@irishfa.com by 5pm Friday 20 February with:

• A summary of your booking

• Evidence of any non-refundable payments made (flights and/or accommodation), including total amount

• Confirmation bookings have not been cancelled or refunded

“To avoid duplication, one person per travelling group should submit details on behalf of all.

“Please note that reservation confirmations alone are not sufficient — we require evidence of non-refundable payments.

“We are in ongoing dialogue with UEFA. Any next steps will depend on the level of confirmed supporter travel and we cannot guarantee an outcome at this stage.

“We will provide a further update in due course.

“Separately, our forthcoming UEFA Nations League fixture against Ukraine will not be played in Ukraine as their home matches have been held outside the country since 2022.

“Venue details will follow.

“Thank you for your continued support.”
