Junior Cup | Round 1B recap

The fonaCAB Craig Stanfield Junior Cup continued over the weekend with 60 Round 1B ties, and what a veritable goalfest it turned out to be!

No fewer than five sides reached double figures on their way into the next round - and four of them even managed it on the road.

Greencastle Rovers were the highest scorers on the day, and the only side to do it at home, as they swept past Magheralin Village at the Valley Leisure Centre.

Conor Sweetnam led the way with five goals of his own whilst Oran McKeown helped himself to a hat-trick inside the opening half-an-hour. David Finlay, James McHugh (with two apiece), Kieran Moloney, Mark Tutin, Cormac Morrison, Paul McAdorey and Darren Fitzsimons also all found the net for the Ballymena & Provincial League side.

Dundela Reserves were almost as equally prolific in their victory over Ballymoney Swifts at Megaw Park. Benjamin Greer bagged a first-half hat-trick, and was joined on the scoresheet by Zach Leeman [2] and a further nine team-mates!

There were another couple of hat-tricks at Drumcoo 3G as Killen Rangers accounted for AFC Dungannon, with Dylan Aiken and Bobby Lee Sproule having to fight it out for the match ball, and it'll be a similar situation within the Magheraveely camp as Andrew Little and Joseph Williamson both hit three each in their win over Armagh Blues.

Crumlin Star II also hit double figures as they cruised past Zim Southern Africa at Mallusk, a goal tally that included four for Shea Doyle and a hat-trick for Finlay McMullan.

In addition to Doyle four other players knocked home four goals on the day, namely Chris Cookes (Bangor YM), Carson Elliott (Kelvin OB), Leon McMaster (Glebe Rangers) and Daniel Wilson (NFC Kesh).

Elsewhere, last season's runners-up Enniskillen Town United safely made it through to the next round with a six-goal defeat of Albion Star but there was a perhaps surprise exit for former serial champions Harryville Homers after they exited at the hands of Beragh Swifts despite being three goals up at home inside the opening half-an-hour!

The first round concludes next Saturday (20th) when holders Ardmore kick-off their defence of the trophy away to Down Area Winter League side Castle Juniors.
