NIPW | Price bags winner for Baggies

Isaac Price scored his fourth goal of the campaign as he helped West Brom to only their second home win of the season - a 2-1 success over Preston North End at the Hawthorns at the weekend.

Price ended a run of seven games without a goal for the Baggies when, just after the hour mark, he curled a delightful shot into the top corner to ultimately secure all three points for the Championship side.

In League One Barnsley midfielder Patrick Kelly scored his first goal for the club after coming off the bench at half-time in the Tykes' 2-2 draw at Bradford City.

Former Linfield striker Shayne Lavery, who missed the start of the campaign with a hamstring injury, looks to be back to full fitness after finding the net for the third time in six games as League Two Cambridge United defeated Bromley 2-1 at home to move into eighth in the table.

In the Scottish Championship Partick Thistle midfielder Oisin Smyth, who is on a season-long loan from St Mirren, scored his first goal since joining the club last month as the Jags beat Ronan Hale’s Ross County 1-0 at Firhill Park.

“It’s been a long time coming,” Smyth told the Thistle website. “We had to dig deep. It was a tough 45 in the first half and it was pretty similar in the second half.

“However, we came out and took more control in the second half, which is what we want to do, especially at home, and to get the win was massive for us.”

Also getting on the scoresheet over the weekend was former Leeds United and Northern Ireland midfielder Alfie McCalmont, who scored from the penalty spot for A League outfit Central Coast Mariners in their 3-2 victory over Newcastle Jets.

Meanwhile, in the Premier League, Conor Bradley started his fourth game of the season for champions Liverpool, who fell to a fourth straight defeat as Manchester United won 2-1 at Anfield to record their first win at the ground in 10 years.

Defenders Trai Hume, who was playing at left back, and Daniel Ballard both started Sunderland’s 2-0 victory at home to bottom of the table Wolves, while Justin Devenny was an unused substitute in Crystal Palace’s thrilling 3-3 draw with Bournemouth at Selhurst Park.

In the Championship Ciaron Brown returned to action after a six-month injury lay-off to win the man-of-the-match award in his first game of the season as Oxford United sneaked a narrow 1-0 win at home to Derby County.

United matchwinner Stan Mills admitted having the 27-year-old back in the side was a major factor in United picking up their first win in four outings.

“To have Ciaron back is huge for us,” he told the Oxford Mail. “We’re all buzzing for him - he’s worked really hard to come back after a long time out through injury and for him to be awarded man of the match speaks for itself.”

Goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell, who won his 52nd cap against Germany last week, produced several stunning saves to help earn bottom-of-the-table Blackpool a valuable point at home to Wycombe Wanderers.

"He’s been going from strength to strength playing for Northern Ireland,” said interim head coach Stephen Dobbie. “He made some big saves and it’s pleasing Bailey is finding a bit of form."

Finally, in SWPL1, Joely Andrews, who was named in the Northern Ireland squad for the upcoming double header against Iceland, scored her first of the season as Hearts Women defeated Aberdeen 5-1 on Sunday.
