Opportunity to trial for Northern Ireland futsal team

The Northern Ireland men’s international futsal squad are offering an opportunity for players to be selected to represent their country on the court.

A trial will be taking place at Shankill Leisure Centre on Sunday 8 January (1.30-3.30pm) and is open to players who are aged 16 and above and meet the below selection criteria.

A Player who is eligible to represent more than one Association on account of his nationality, may play in an international match for one of these Associations only if, in addition to having the relevant nationality, he fulfils at least one of the following conditions:

a)    He was born on the territory of the relevant Association;

b)    His biological mother or biological father was born on the territory of the relevant Association

c)     His grandmother or grandfather was born on the territory of the relevant Association;

d)    The player has undertaken Primary and/or Secondary Education for a minimum of 5 years in the territory of the relevant Association

Head coach, Jonathan Michael is looking to expand the pool of players for the team and encourages those that are eligible to sign up for the opportunity.

He said: “Over 30 people have been selected to play for Northern Ireland since we started back in December 2016.  We understand that our pool is still small so there are realistic opportunities for players to be added to this number.

“We are looking for players with strong technical ability and a willingness to learn tactical elements as instructed by our coaching team.”
