Clubs urged to get involved in UEFA Playmakers programme

The successful UEFA Disney Playmakers programme is returning to Northern Ireland in partnership with the Irish Football Association.

The pan-European participation initiative, powered by Disney stories, has already introduced tens of thousands of girls aged five to eight to football across Europe.

The aim of UEFA Playmakers is to get more girls playing through movement, play and storytelling.

Marissa Callaghan from the Irish FA Foundation explained: “The purpose of this initiative is to introduce football to young girls who are not currently participating, and to widen the base of girls involved in football.

“We aim to provide a fun, magical and engaging entry point to football through the power of Disney storytelling. Our goal is to foster inclusivity and participation by creating safe and welcoming environments where girls feel comfortable and excited to participate within our clubs’ pathways.”

The Irish FA is currently encouraging clubs across Northern Ireland to get involved in the initiative.

Marissa had this message for clubs: “By expressing your interest to run a UEFA Playmakers Centre you can play a pivotal role in shaping the future of girls’ football. You will receive comprehensive training, support from Irish FA Foundation Development Officers and resources to deliver the programme effectively.

“This programme will help your club develop a pathway, starting from ages five to eight. Let’s work together to create a positive and inclusive environment for girls to discover the joy of football.”

Expressions of interest can be submitted up until Wednesday 9 July. Further information is available here.
