Clearer Water Irish Cup | Fourth Round recap

The eight sides rubbing shoulders with their senior counterparts in the next phase of the Clearer Water Irish Cup are now known following Saturday's Fourth Round ties.

Ballymacash Rangers, Comber Rec., Drumaness Mills, Knockbreda, Lisburn Distillery, Lisburn Rangers, Moyola Park and Strabane Athletic all made it through to join the 24 sides from the NIFL Premiership and Championship in January.

Drumaness Mills, from the NAFL Premier Division, kicked the action off on Friday night after coming from behind to defeat Newry City at the Showgrounds.

Keith Dalton edged Newry in front early in the second half but the visitors levelled soon after when Kyle McCleery nodded home after connecting with a cross into the box.

Then, on the hour, Callum Dougan bagged what proved to be the winner with a great strike from distance.

Lisburn Rangers, also from the NAFL Premier, also accounted for NIFL opposition with a penalty shoot-out defeat of Dergview at Stanley Park and they had to come from two goals down to so!

It looked to be a fairly routine afternoon for the visitors when goals from Joe Curran and Michael McElhatton saw them race into a commanding lead with barely a quarter-of-an-hour on the clock.

But Rangers hit back through Carter Savage and a Jamie Willighan penalty late in the first half to go in at the break on level terms.

Paul Smith restored Dergview’s lead midway through the second half but Karl Rossborough equalised for Rangers not long after that.

The sides also traded goals in extra-time after Gerard McMullan edged the home side in front for the first time only for Jamie Harris to hit Dergview’s fourth five minutes later.

It eventually took the dreaded penalties to settle it with Rangers emerging 4-3 victors!

Comber Rec. made it a trio of Northern Amateur League sides in the last 32 with a 3-1 defeat of Hanover at Park Way.

The visitors had seized the early advantage through Jack McIvor but a Christopher Murray double coupled with Lex Walker’s header on the hour saw Comber secure their place in the next round.

Strabane Athletic made it through with an all-PIL defeat of Rathfriland Rangers at the Melvin Park Arena.

Eoin Rooney broke the deadlock in favour of the visitors late in the first half, but Oisin Duffy was the hero of the hour for Strabane with the equaliser on the stroke of half-time before knocking home the winner with around ten minutes remaining.

Ballymacash Rangers swept to a four-goal win over Willowbank at the Bluebell Stadium.

Early goals from Ross Hunter and Adam Neale helped Gary Hamilton’s side storm into an early lead, with an own goal midway through the first half only strengthening to Cash’s grip on the game. Sam Cochrane completed the scoring with less than a quarter-of-an-hour remaining moments after coming off the bench.

Lisburn Distillery and Knockbreda also bagged four apiece as they accounted for Finaghy and Wakehurst respectively.

Padraig McVicker, Guillaume Keke, Benny Igiehon and Leon Lavery all got on the scoresheet for the Whites at Ballyskeagh while a Curtis Giltrap hat-trick and a Matthew Devlin strike right at the end of extra-time helped ‘Breda get past Wakehurst in Ballymena.

And Moyola Park, first ever winners of the competition, completed the Fifth Round line-up thanks to Bobby Deane’s stoppage time winner away to Newbuildings United.
