Davis and Dallas to be inducted into NIFWA Hall of Fame

Northern Ireland legends Steven Davis and Stuart Dallas will be inducted into the Malcolm Brodie Hall of Fame at this year's NIFWA Awards.

The two former internationals are due to attend the Northern Ireland Football Writers' Association's end-of-season awards ceremony on Sunday (4 May).

At the event NIFWA will also celebrate the best of the Irish League with awards for Player of the Year, Manager of the Year and Young Player of the Year.

The association's annual awards ceremony is set to return to its traditional place on the calendar – the day after the Irish Cup Final. And Belfast's Crowne Plaza Hotel is the venue.

Former Aston Villa, Southampton and Rangers midfielder Davis won a record-breaking 140 caps for Northern Ireland, captaining the team at UEFA Euro 2016.

A delighted Davis said: "It's an incredible honour to be inducted into the Malcolm Brodie Hall of Fame alongside genuine greats such as George Best and Harry Gregg.

"It was always a privilege to represent my country and the people of Northern Ireland. To receive an accolade like this is incredible."

Ex-Leeds United star Dallas is no stranger to the NIFWA Awards. He was named Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year in 2011 during his time in the Irish League with Crusaders. He went on to win 62 caps for his country.

Dallas said: "I have fond memories of winning Player of the Year during my time with Crusaders. It's an honour to return to the awards event all these years later to join the Hall of Fame."

The NIFWA Player of the Year award was first presented to Coleraine legend Dessie Dickson in 1970 and has since been won by Irish League stars such as Martin McGaughey, Glenn Ferguson and Joe Gormley.

And Gormley, who will be hoping to line out for Cliftonville in the Clearer Water Irish Cup Final against Dungannon Swifts on Saturday, is in the running again along with Swifts player Gael Bigirimana and Linfield’s Joel Cooper.

NIFWA chair Michael Clarke said: "Our annual awards are a highlight in the Northern Ireland football calendar.

"It's an opportunity to honour the exceptional talent and dedication within our football community, and a chance to celebrate another magnificent season.

"We are thrilled to host this year's all-new ceremony at the Crowne Plaza, a venue that reflects the prestige of these awards.

"The Northern Ireland Football Writers' Association also has a new logo to mark an exciting new era for the association."

Liverpool defender Conor Bradley has already been named International Player of the Year by NIFWA, while Northern Ireland winger Danielle Maxwell was named Women's Premiership Player of the Year after helping Cliftonville Ladies to an unbeaten campaign.

The nominees for NIFWA awards this year are:

Manager of the Year: David Healy (Linfield), Jim Magilton (Cliftonville), Rodney McAree (Dungannon Swifts).
