
Louise Thompson has been appointed as the Irish FA’s new Women’s Referee Pathway Officer.
A current FIFA-listed and NIFL Premiership referee, Louise brings experience and knowledge to the role alongside a passion for developing and supporting referees at all levels of the game.
Irish FA Senior Refereeing Manager Andrew Davey said: “This is an excellent move for our referee development programme.
“Louise brings a depth of experience, excellent knowledge of the game and a passion for supporting referees.
“Her leadership and fresh vision will be key in taking forward our commitment to grow and improve the women’s refereeing pathway. We are thrilled to welcome her into this important role.”
Back in January the Fermanagh referee made history when she became the first female to take charge of a NIFL Premiership game. She officiated a match between Crusaders and Dungannon Swifts at Seaview.
Back in 2020 Thompson was involved in another Northern Ireland football first when she became the first female to take charge of the Intermediate Cup final. She has also previously refereed Irish Cup matches.
In addition she has extensive experience in the women’s game, including the NIFL Women’s Premiership and on the international stage.
Thompson will replace Arleen Campbell to whom the the Irish FA expresses its sincere thanks for her dedication and service in the position.
