Portadown and Glenavon among four teams to progress in Clearer Water Irish Cup

Four more teams have booked their places in the sixth round of this season’s Clearer Water Irish Cup.

Seven of the 16 ties in round five were called off on Saturday due to frozen pitches – and they were subsequently rescheduled.

Last night four of those rescheduled games took place, with Portadown, Glenavon, Warrenpoint Town and Institute securing places in the next round.

Portadown, who will now face holders Dungannon Swifts in the sixth round, defeated neighbours Annagh United 4-2 at Shamrock Park.

The Ports went 2-0 ahead thanks to goals from Jack Scott and Divin Isamala, however Kris Calvert and Lee Upton both found the net to draw Annagh level.

But the NIFL Premiership side got the better of the current NIFL Championship leaders thanks to an own goal from Upton and a goal from striker Rhys Annett, who is currently on loan at the Ports from Linfield.

Down the road in Lurgan, Premiership outfit Glenavon eventually squeezed past Championship side Newington after extra time.

Newington’s Darren Stuart opened the scoring on 22 minutes before Paul McGovern drew Glenavon level early in the second half.

A well-struck Rory Donnelly free-kick then put Newington 2-1 up in the 78th minute before Peter Campbell netted in injury time to take the game into extra time.

On 104 minutes Nathaniel Ferris netted for the hosts at Mourneview Park before the win was sealed by Gavin Gilmore.

In an all-Championship clash at Ferney Park it was all square and goalless at the interval between hosts Ballinamallard United and Institute.

But Padraig Lynch notched a second half hat-trick to give Institute a 3-0 win. His first came on 51 minutes and he doubled his tally 16 minutes later. His third and final goal was scored in the 87th minute.

There was a cracking tie at Milltown as Championship side Warrenpoint Town hosted Lisburn Distillery from the NIFL Premier Intermediate League.

Leon Lavery put the Whites 1-0 up early on before Adam Carroll netted for Town on the half-hour mark.

The home side looked to be in the driving seat when Declan Loye and Conall Murray scored on 55 minutes and 60 minutes respectively.

But the visitors had other ideas and they quickly drew level thanks to goals from Guillaume Keke and recent signing Jamie McDonagh.

There was no further scoring in regulation time. The goal that proved to be the winner came at the start of extra time. Daniel Byrne was the scorer.

The three remaining round five ties are due to be played next week.

The revised sixth round fixture list is as follows:

Carrick Rangers v Coleraine

Cliftonville v Glenavon

Knockbreda or Loughgall v Institute

Limavady United v Linfield

Warrenpoint Town v Ballymena United or Larne

H&W Welders v Ballymacash Rangers

Portadown v Dungannon Swifts

Strabane Athletic or Glentoran v Drumaness Mills

The eight R6 ties are due to be played on the weekend of Friday 6/Saturday 7 February 2026.

The tie between Limavady United and Linfield will be the livestreamed game in the sixth round. BBC Sport NI is set to stream the match on 6 February (7.45pm kick-off).
