Maik has been goalkeeping coach since July 2014. Despite retiring as a player in 2013 in June 2015, at the age of 43, he was famously listed as the third keeper following an injury to Roy Carroll on the eve of the home qualifier against Romania (0-0). Maik, who won 88 caps for Northern Ireland, began his playing career at youth level in Germany, where he was born. After playing for a few non-league teams in England he joined Barnet in June 1995. He moved to Southampton for a short time in 1997 before switching to Fulham where he made 189 appearances (1997-2004). He then moved to Birmingham (2004-2011) and made 214 appearances for them. After spells with Leeds and Millwall, he hung up his gloves in the summer of 2013.
