Donley signs loan deal with Stoke City

Northern Ireland attacking midfielder Jamie Donley has joined Stoke City on a season-long loan.

Donley has switched to the EFL Championship club from Tottenham Hotspur.

Last season the 20-year-old midfielder had a successful loan spell at League One outfit Leyton Orient. He made 52 appearances for the O’s, scoring eight times and providing 11 assists.

Donley told Stoke's website: "I had a few teams after me, but I decided on Stoke when the gaffer (Mark Robins) called while I was away on tour (with Spurs).

"The way he wants to play, both in terms of attacking and defending, definitely suits me."

The attacking midfielder made his senior Northern Ireland international debut back in March and now has three caps under his belt.

He featured twice for Spurs during their pre-season fixtures this summer and travelled with Thomas Frank’s side to South Korea last week, completing his loan to Stoke upon his return.

“Jamie was one of the standout players in League One last season and, naturally, the number of goals and assists he produced made him a loan target for several Championship clubs this summer,” Stoke City Sporting Director Jonathan Walters explained.

“That he’s been involved throughout pre-season for Tottenham Hotspur speaks volumes for how highly regarded he is by their coaching staff.

“Jamie is technically talented with a clinical shooting and passing range. We are looking forward to seeing the impact he can make as a Stoke City player this season.”

Antrim-born Donley joined Spurs at the age of eight. He signed his first professional contract with the Premier League side in January 2022 and made his senior debut for Tottenham in December 2023.
