Five finalists set for fast-paced football feast in Antrim

Allen Park in Antrim is the venue tomorrow (7 April) for the final stage of this year’s Danske Bank competition for girls’ 11-a-side school teams at U15 level.

The schools involved are Abbey Community College from Newtownabbey, Belfast’s Dominican College, Holy Cross College in Strabane, Belfast’s Lagan College and St Joseph’s (Belfast).

All five finalists were able to battle their way through competitive heats to book their places in the final stage of the fast-paced competition.

The teams involved tomorrow will compete in a league format, playing each other in 15-minute matches. The format means the teams have no time to settle and creates all-action games loved by the girls taking part and the spectators on the sidelines.

"One goal can make all the difference in these games and that's what makes this competition so exciting,” said Damian McLaughlin, the Irish FA Foundation’s Schools and Futsal Officer.

“The girls have to be in the zone from the very start of every game. This has led to so many incredible games and goals. The final stage will be another opportunity for the girls to excel."

The girls from St Joseph’s College in south Belfast won the overall title when the final tournament was last staged in 2020.

The games are due to get under way at 11am tomorrow.
