Megan reveals how she swapped gymnastics for football

Megan Beattie believes it will be a proud moment for all of her team mates as they compete in the UEFA Women's Under 19 Championships in August.

Beattie plays her football locally for Crusader Strikers and credits her brother for getting her hooked into football at an early age, she said: "It was my brother who wanted me to play football. I always loved my gymnastics but as soon as I stepped onto a pitch at 8 years old and then I went to Crusader Strikers and I still play for them now.

The midfielder started playing for Northern Ireland at Under 17 level against Austria and will now have a chance to wear the shirt on the European stage. On the upcoming tournament, which begins on 8 August as Northern Ireland face Spain at the National Football Stadium at Windsor Park, she said: "I think it will be amazing for the team against the seven best countries in Europe and the best players in Europe.

"All the training we are doing, the work Alfie (Wylie, Manager) is putting in with us will show on the pitch."
