Ports-Reds Irish Cup last eight clash to be livestreamed by BBC

The Clearer Water Irish Cup quarter-final tie between Portadown and Cliftonville next month will be livestreamed by BBC Sport NI, it was announced today.

Portadown, who play in the NIFL Championship, will be hoping to claim another NIFL Premiership scalp in the competition this year when they host the Reds at Shamrock Park on Friday 1 March.

In the fifth round, the stage at which Premiership and Championship sides enter the fray each season, Niall Currie’s Ports edged past Premiership side Carrick Rangers 5-4 on penalties after the game at Taylor’s Avenue in Carrickfergus ended one apiece following extra time.

In round six at the weekend they booked their place in the quarter-finals with a 2-1 win over Championship rivals Bangor at Shamrock Park.

Jim Magilton’s Reds have yet to concede a goal in this year’s competition – and they have defeated two Premiership sides on their way to the last eight.

In round five they beat Coleraine at the Showgrounds 3-0 after extra time and on Saturday they eased past Loughgall at Solitude by four goals to nil.

The quarter-final tie on 1 March at Shamrock Park in Portadown will be livestreamed on BBC iPlayer and on the BBC Sport NI website (bbc.co.uk/sportni). Kick-off time is 7.45pm.

The three other ties in the last eight are scheduled to be played the following day (Saturday 2 March) and they are also Premiership v Championship clashes. Glentoran are at home to Ballyclare Comrades, Institute will host Linfield at the Brandywell in Derry-Londonderry and Larne and Newington will battle it out at Inver Park in Larne.
