NEWTOWNABBEY Community College pupil Terri Evans scored four goals in two games in today’s Belfast Schoolgirls League.
Belfast Schoolgirls League 2008 - Round Up Week Three
In the first game against Our Lady of Mercy Year 8/9’s Terri produced a dazzling performance scoring three goals in the space of fifteen minutes. Victoria Moore scored the other goal in a convincing 4-0 victory and secured Newtownabbey’s first win of the day.
Next up Newtownabbey faced joint league leaders Knockbreda High in a highly entertaining game. In an evenly matched first half neither team could break the deadlock. An explosive second half started with Newtownabbey super sub Katelyn Stewart forcing an early save from the Knockbreda goalkeeper Gemma Gibson who parried the ball into the path of Moore who expertly placed the ball in the bottom left corner of the net. Minutes later it was Stewart’s corner that found Evans on the edge of the box who unleashed an unstoppable shot into the goal. Newtownabbey now move 1 point clear at the top of the Year 8/9 league table.
In the other year 8/9 game St Colms High also picked up their first league victory with a 2-0 win over North Belfast side Hazelwood College. St Colms player Paige Carson scored the first goal and was instrumental in creating the opportunity for the second, which teammate Jenna Kerr coolly passed into the open net.

St Colms High produced the shock result of the day when they defeated top of the table Hazelwood College. In a game where St Colms out-battled Hazelwood, Kerri McNally proved to be the star performer, scoring goals early in the first half and mid way through the second. For her first goal she ran from the half way line beating all defenders in her path before driving the ball into the net. Her second came when the ball was cleared over the top of the Hazelwood defence where she pounced to slot the ball into the net.
A bottom of the table clash between Our Lady of Mercy and Dundonald High was a thrilling encounter with both teams looking to notch up their first points in the league. Mellissa Galloway of Dundonald High scored the first goal when she stole the ball in midfield before pounding the ball into the goal. Dundonald thought they had all three points in the bag until Leona Burns scored a dramatic equaliser when she got on the end of a wonderful ball from the wing which she expertly volleyed into the top corner.
In the final year 10/11 game Knockbreda High faced an improving Newtownabbey Community High team. Goals in the first half from Lyndsey Fryers and Louise Hunter should have secured the victory, but Knockbreda fought back and secured a vital point with a fantastic second half performance. Goals from Lorana Baine and an own goal by the Newtownabbey defender ensured that Knockbreda remain in contention for the title.
