22/06/2009

The Irish Football Association is pleased to award UEFA Club Licensing certificates to five clubs who successfully completed the UEFA Club Licensing scheme and a further thirteen Domestic Club Licensing certificates to those clubs who achieved the all the mandatory criteria.

Clubs were assessed in five key areas namely Sporting, Infrastructure, Personnel & Administration, Legal and Financial.

A monetary award (£3,500 for UEFA and £1,250 for Domestic) is being made in conjunction with the licence to recognise the effort required by clubs to attain the Licence.

Chairman of the Club Licensing Committee Mr Allen McKinstry said, ”The members of the Committee recognise and are encouraged by the engagement of clubs within both the  UEFA and Domestic Club Licensing Schemes over the past season. We continue to review the requirements and procedures for the award of Club Licences at both UEFA and the Domestic level to ensure they are both appropriate and effective.”

Allen continued, “There remains a challenge to encourage IFA Championship clubs to engage in the Domestic Club Licensing process and we hope to introduce policies in the near future which shall go some way to achieving this.”

Club Licensing and Facilities Manager, David McVeigh added, ”The Club Licensing Scheme, both for UEFA and Domestic competition, continues to play an integral part of our future plans for club development. A number of the licensing principles have formed the basis of clubs own initiatives to improve from within.”
