TOP AWARD FOR OXFORD UTD CIS MINI SOCCER CENTRE

03/07/2008

THE Mayor of Derry City Council, Councilor Gerard Divin, visited the Oxford United CIS Mini Soccer Centre to present them with a top award.

The centre, which is based at the Templemore Sports Complex on the Buncrana Road, was one of the CIS Mini Soccer Centre award winners for the month of May.

Each month awards are presented to two centres and, as well as receiving the honour of being named a monthly award winner, each centre receives valuable coaching equipment to help with the coaching sessions.

IFA Grassroots Development Officer for Derry City Council Kevin Doherty, said: “I am delighted for Oxford United Youth to win the monthly prize. Since they received the IFA accredited licence more and more boys and girls have attended the weekly sessions. The equipment should help their IFA qualified coaches deliver fun filled coaching sessions to all those who attend.” The CIS Mini Soccer Centres provide fun and informal football coaching based around small-sided games for boys and girls aged between 6 and 14.

Aileen Walters, Sponsorship Manager for The Co-operative Insurance said: “The Co-operative Insurance has a strong tradition of supporting football at grassroots level throughout the UK through our coaching initiatives.  The CIS Mini Soccer Centres provide an ideal platform to extend this support throughout Northern Irelandwith activities which link to our sponsorship of the CIS Insurance Cup.  This is a very exciting sponsorship for The Co-operative Insurance and underlines our commitment to the game at all levels in Northern Ireland.”
