THE IFA’s Head of Community Relations, Michael Boyd, received a surprise award from the Amalgamation of Official Northern Ireland Supporters Clubs for Services to Local Football in front of a 400 strong crowd at the IFA’s Football For All Unsung Hero Awards night.
A delighted Boyd explains how much the award meant: “To receive an award and standing ovation from those who matter most, the fans, means the world to me. I was deeply touched by the speech that the Amalgamation’s Football For All Co-ordinator, Stewart McAfee made and it was a total surprise.”
Having had time to reflect on the surprise presentation, Michael dedicated the award to his work colleague, Colleen Macauley and all the unsung heroes who work hard behind the scenes to make football more inclusive: “I would like to dedicate my award to one of the most loyal and hardest working people I know, IFA Community Relations Officer, Colleen Macauley, and all the unsung heroes from all strands of football here in Northern Ireland that our awards night tries to shine the spotlight on.
"Colleen, the Northern Ireland fans at the heart of Football For All and the volunteers who give so much to the game of football are a constant source of inspiration to me.”
