SUNDAY 6 July will see celebrity golfers descend on Ballymena to play in the first ever George Best Golf Invitational at Galgorm Castle Golf Club.
The event will host up to 35 celebrities from across the UK and Ireland to participate in a celebrity and amateur golf event that will be open to the general public and raise much needed funds for the George Best Foundation.
The event will see three amateur golfers play with one celebrity over 18 holes at Galgorm Castle Golf Club in Ballymena. There will be 30 teams competing with a two tee start. The teams will battle it out to win a series of prizes including the George Best Golf Invitational trophy which is made from the finest cut glass Tyrone Crystal.
The Golf tournament will be televisedby Sky Sports or Setanta Sports.It is anticipated that the entire event will attract in excess of 3,000 spectators province-wide, toenjoy the family activities which will run throughout Sunday 6th July. These activities will include outdoor bouncy castles, hospitality tents, face painters, Falconry, Shetland pony rides, inflatable climbing towers, archery, to name but a few.
In addition to the golf spectacular, there will also be a ‘museum’ of George Best’s personal possessions in Galgorm Castle which has never been exhibited before; his1968 Cup Winners medal, his 1968 British Player of the Year trophy, a pair of George’s football boots and his much cherished Mini Cooper ‘S’ are just some of the items which will be on display.
Galgorm Castle Golf Club comprises of 220 acres of mature parkland surrounding the 17th century castle. The 18 hole par 72 championship course is surrounded by several lakes and overlooks the natural beauty of the River Maine and Braid. In the ten years since opening, the prestigious golf course has positioned itself as one of the top courses in Northern Ireland.
