SINCE his move from Lisburn Distillery to Hamilton Academicals in January Andrew Waterworth is gradually settling in to his new surroundings and whilst still missing home he is sure this is the right move to benefit his career.
"It is what I expected and I am a wee bit homesick obviously, I miss everything about home and things like the news, the papers and the Northern Irish accent but it is full-time football and it is what I wanted and I know I just have to keep my head-down and hopefully the chances will come for me although it is getting easier though the longer I have been there," said Andrew.
Within the space of two weeks Andy found himself at the Newry Showgrounds one week and Pittodrie the next in front of 9,000 Aberdeen fans in the Scottish Cup.
"It was brilliant to step-out on my debut at Pittodrie in front of 9,000 fans, that was a great feeling and it gave me goose bumps it was a big big difference to what I was used to playing for Distillery against the likes of Limavady and Institute - with no disrespect to those teams," he added.
Hamilton had been going well in the Scottish Division 1 prior to Waterworth's move and they still remain top of the division, and the former Distillery hit-man knows he will have to be patient for his chances to come as there is plenty of competition for places upfront.
"Obviously I would love to be playing and getting games but there are a lot of good players at the club and I know I just have to keep my head down and work hard and then I am sure my chance will come," said Andy.
"We are doing well to be at the top of the league but there a lot of good teams not far behind us and I really think it will go right down to the wire for promotion but we are in a good position and it is only ours to throw away," he said.
Roy Millar also has a plenty of strikers to choose from his U21 squad ahead of the Romania game with Daryl Fordyce, Jamie Ward and Thomas Stewart all in good form but Andy understands that competition as always is good for footballers as it keeps everyone on their toes.
"There is competition everywhere and there are no bad players at international football, it is good to come back here and learn from the rest of the squad and I am still learning from the players at Hamilton," said Andy.
Northern Ireland take on Romania at the Ballymena Showgrounds on Wednesday and Waterworth believes the lads are full of confidence ahead of the game.
"It is always nice to come back and play for your country and I am looking forward to the game and as always we will go into the game full of confidence as we should be and we will give 100% for Roy (Millar) and hopefully get a good result ahead of the Germany game," he said.
