THE official launch of the Setanta Sports Cup 2008 was hosted by the Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Jim Rodgers, in his impressive offices at Clarendon Docks.
The event, chaired by Geoff Wilson (Head of IFA Marketing and Communications), was attended by a large number of players, managers, and officials from the eight clubs involved.
The launch was the fourth in the competition’s history following the 2005 season which saw Linfield clinch the trophy followed by Drogheda holding onto to it for two years (2006 and 2007).
The first matches will kick off on Tuesday 26 February with Drogheda United hosting Cliftonville (live on Setanta Sports) and Dungannon Swifts hosting Cork City.
