LISBURN CHAMPIONS

23/10/2007

Girl’s football took centre stage at Lisburn Leisure Plex recently as the first indoor 5 a-side competition was held for Primary Schools in the Lisburn area.

The event, organised by I.F.A. Grassroots Development Officer Ken Duncan, in conjunction with Lisburn City Council attracted teams from Ballinderry Primary School, Ballymacash Primary School, St Joseph’s Primary School and Riverdale Primary School. The competition forms part of the overall “grassroots” programme now in its second year and is one of a number planned for female soccer development this coming season.

Grassroots Development Officer Ken Duncan said after the event that, “the girls who took part displayed a fantastic attitude towards the competition and towards each other. Not only did they compete and display great skill but they also competed in an atmosphere of mutual respect encouraging each other despite being in different teams. This was one of the most encouraging and positive events of the season and one which will be repeated in the not to distant future.”

After very close competition Ballymacash Primary School A team won by a single point, with Riverdale Primary School taking runners up spot.
