Co-operative Insurance (CIS) has today reinforced its long-term commitment to Northern Ireland football by announcing a three year extension to its CIS Insurance Cup sponsorship.
A major boost to Northern Irish League football, the new deal marks the continuation of the sponsorship by CIS, which initially began in 2001 and which will now run up to and including season 2008 / 2009. Next season’s competition kicks-off on Saturday 12 August and all 16 Premier League clubs will battle it out to reach the Final on Saturday 2 December.
David Newman, Director of Marketing for Co-operative Insurance said: “We are delighted to be renewing our sponsorship of the CIS Insurance Cup in Northern Ireland. Our association with the Northern Irish Premier League Cup over the last five years has been extremely successful, and we hope that the competition will continue to go from strength to strength.
“The CIS Insurance Cup has provided CIS with tremendous media exposure, as well as offering us a platform from which to launch our programme of grassroots initiatives.”
Bobby Jameson, Chairman of the Irish Premier League, commented: “This sponsorship deal with CIS will provide much needed support to local football. CIS has helped raise the status of the Irish Premier League Cup to unprecedented levels since the sponsorship began in 2001 and I am in no doubt, that over the next three seasons, it will continue to be a great success.”
Linfield striker Glenn Ferguson says the Blues are out to retain the silverware they landed in last year’s Big Two final win against Glentoran: “Winning the CIS Insurance Cup gave us the launch pad to go on and have a fantastic season,” reveals the Ulster Player of the Year.
“The competition challenges players to strive for high levels of performance early in the season and last year the CIS Insurance Cup produced some great entertainment for supporters with plenty of goals and some superb games.”
For Donegal Celtic skipper Joe Donnelly and his players it will be their first real taste of senior football: “We played Institute in the Premier League play-off but we are all desperate to get started in the CIS Cup. The competition will give us the opportunity to measure ourselves against the standard of opposition we will be facing this season.”
