BOYS ACROSS THE WATER

ANDY Kirk fired a timely reminder to Lawrie Sanchez ahead of the forthcoming friendly with Estonia.

He struck twice in Northampton Town's 5-0 defeat of Macclesfield Town at the Sixfields, the first coming on 37 minutes with a header from a Scott McGleish flick while the second came in stoppage time.

Incidentally, former international keeper Alan Fettis was between the sticks for the beleagured Silkmen.

Kirk was the only Northern Ireland scorer this weekend although Hull City's Stuart Elliott did have a shot deflected past his own keeper by Stoke City's Darel Russell as the Tigers romped to a 3-0 victory.

And Steve Jones had a part to play in Crewe Alexandra's consolation goal in their 2-1 reversal at home to Plymouth Argyle when he set up Luke Rodgers late in the game.

Maik Taylor played his part in Birmingham City's 5-0 win over Portsmouth at St. Andrews with two stops to deny Pompey's Benjani Mwaruwari at pivotal points in the game.

Elsewhere, there was a successful debut for Johnny Harkness as he helped Kidderminster Harriers defeat Scarborough in the Conference whilst another new boy, Wayne Carlisle, played 83 minutes of Exeter City's 2-2 draw with Morecambe.
