IFA PRESIDENT WILL ATTEND GEORGE BEST’S FUNERAL

NORTHERN Ireland’s greatest player will be honoured at all league grounds this afternoon with a minute’s silence.

A DELEGATION from the Irish Football Association, led by President Jim Boyce, will attend the funeral of George Best, expected to be held in Belfast at the end of the week.

Mr Boyce will return from an UEFA conference in Cyprus especially to be present.

The size of the delegation will be dependent on the Best family’s wishes.

In the meantime, this afternoon, a minute’s silence will be observed at all Irish league grounds in honour of the country’s greatest footballing legend.

IFA Chief ExecutiveHoward Wells will attend the Linfield v Portadown game in Belfast, near to George’s family home in the city.

Around the world statesmen, football managers and players, friends, supporters and members of the media have been paying tribute to the remarkable talent of George, who died at the age of 59 in London yesterday.
