THE Under 9s, Under 11s, Under 13s and Under 15 sections of the 2012 Irish FA Indoor Cup took place recently.
UNDER 9s
This competition provided the opportunity for the U9 teams to showcase their skills in non-competitive matches against other clubs. All the teams did extremely well with Crusaders/Newtownabbey Strikers, Moneyslane, Glentoran, First Kicks, Linfield Girls and Newington Girls all taking part.
UNDER 11s
The Under 11 section of the 2012 Irish FA Indoor Cup took place at the Shankill Leisure. The first semi-final was between old rivals Glentoran and Linfield Girls. Linfield showed their strength with a 2-0 victory with goals from Leah Robinson and Kelsie Burrows securing their place in the final. The second semi-final was between Lisburn Ladies and Moneyslane Girls with no difference between each team until the last 20 seconds with Lisburn Ladies’ Rachel Steel managing to score the winning goal.
The final between Linfield and Lisburn was highly anticipated but Linfield showed their strength and dominated the game from kick-off. Lisburn found it difficult to keep Linfield from scoring with Linfield lifting the Cup as winners of the Under 11 section of the Irish FA Indoor Cup.
UNDER 13s
The Under 13 and Under 15 sections of the 2012 Irish FA Indoor Cup 2012 also took place at Shankill Leisure. The first semi-final between Ballynahinch and Crusaders Newtownabbey Strikers showed the high standard of football but Ballynahinch pushed Crusaders to the limit with Ballynahinch winning 1-0. The second semi-final saw Linfield Ladies take on Craigavon City and after what seemed like Linfield guaranteeing a win in the final; Craigavon City took the lead and pushed to make it through with a 1-0 victory.
Ballynahinch met Craigavon City in an impressive final with both team keepers standing out. Ballynahinch had many striking attacks; while Ballynahinch’s Abigail Reid defended strongly to stop Craigavon on the attack. Ballynahinch piled on the pressure and it eventually paid off with Emma McMaster striking the first and only goal. Ballynahinch were the stronger team on the day and took home the 2012 Irish FA Indoor Cup.
UNDER 15s
The Under 15 section proved to be a very competitive group; with all the teams evenly matched. Cappagh Spurs and Carnmoney made it through to the first semi-final and Lisburn Ladies and Crusaders booked their places in the 2nd semi final. The final was a battle between Cappagh and Crusaders but Crusaders showed their determination and skill Crusaders took the lead beating Cappagh to lift the cup.
