Release Date: 25/08/2010
WHEN Billy Garnon’s football career was brought to a premature end through injury, he saw only one way back into the game he loves.
Rather than go down the coaching route, Billy set his sights on becoming a football agent and this dream has become a reality when he successfully passed the recent FIFA Players Agent exam with the Irish FA.
Billy has played football both as a professional and an amateur for over 10 years on both sides of the Atlantic. His career has seen him play at Derry City, Institute, with brief spells at Linfield and Omagh Town, New York Metrostars (now Red Bulls) and L.I. Rough Riders, as well as gaining a Full Scholarship to play at Concordia College in New York.
Upon gaining his FIFA Players agent Licence Billy said: “The main aim of any football agent is to have and to gain the trust of the players and the clubs. Agents can get negative press, but this is something I aim to distance myself from and show that I can work for the benefit of players at all levels of the game. Many young players move across to clubs with high aspirations, and these ambitions must be managed appropriately so that the players make the right choices and go down the correct path to benefit their careers for the long term.”
Billy hopes to pass on his expertise and experience, and help to develop opportunities for the next generation of aspiring footballers by aiming to focus on their careers both in and out of the game.
