IFA INTRODUCES NEW CHARITY PARTNERS

The Irish Football Association has announced its ‘Going for Goal’ official charity partners for the next two years.  Three charities with a strong reputation for ‘grassroots’ work with disadvantaged and vulnerable people in all communities across Northern Ireland will partner the IFA during the 2010 World Cup Campaign.

The IFA’s charity partners are Mencap, Positive Futures and The Prince’s Trust.  The Prince’s Trust helps young people who most need help to overcome barriers and get their lives working.  Positive Futures and Mencap both support people with a learning disability and their families.Going for Goal

Announcing the partnership, the IFA’s Head of Marketing and Communications, Geoff Wilson said: “Our three official charity partners took part in a demanding selection process.  Like the Irish FA they have a huge commitment to work at community level and we were convinced that they are the perfect partners for football in Northern Ireland.  We hope all Northern Ireland supporters and Supporters Clubs will get behind these fantastic charities.”

The IFA and its sponsors will be backing its ‘Going for Goal’ charities with a range of fundraising and publicity initiatives.  The charities will have the opportunity to make the public more aware of their work, carry out collections at all Northern Ireland home international games and organise other fundraising initiatives.

Youth charity The Prince’s Trust helps change young lives in the UK.  It gives practical and financial support, developing skills such as confidence and motivation.  It works with 14-30 year olds who have struggled at school, have been in care, are long-term unemployed or have been in trouble with the law.  Since it was founded by HRH The Prince of Wales in 1976, The Prince’s Trust has helped over half a million young people and continues to support 100 more every day. www.princes-trust.org.uk  Prince’s Trust programmes offer personal development opportunities that bring tangible and lasting benefits to both young people and the communities in which they live.

Positive Futures is a Northern Ireland charity that provides community-based services for children, young people and adults with a learning disability and their families. The charity provides three main services – Supported Living, Adult Placement and Family Support Services.  Positive Futures provides services across Northern Ireland and - like Mencap - wants to see a world in which people with a learning disability are valued equally, listened to and included.

Mencap in Northern Ireland works in local communities with people with a learning disability and their families and carers.  It fights to end discrimination and prejudice and provides a range of advice, information and support services. Mencap fights to change laws and services and to provide better access to education, employment and leisure facilities, supporting thousands of people with a learning disability to live their lives the way they want.

POSITIVE FUTURES KICKS OFF IN STYLE

The Northern Ireland charity for people with a learning disability, Positive Futures, has hit the ground running with its first IFA ‘Going for Goal’ fundraising venture.

The charity organised an in-house raffle aimed primarily at Positive Futures’ employees and their families and friends.  Up for grabs were two tickets to NI v Czech Republic, a NI shirt signed by Nigel Worthington and a NI Heroes DVD. The lure of the Czech game helped Positive Futures raise £1,022.00 – a great effort.  The lucky winner was Paul Adamson from Holywood.

In addition, Positive Futures were invited to organize a raffle for two San Marino tickets at a Testimonal Golf Day for local Linfield legend Glenn Ferguson.  The raffle for the tickets, a shirt signed by NI first team members and a NI ‘Heroes DVD’ raised £321.00, with Jim McMinn picking up the top prize.

Positive Futures Chief Executive Officer, Agnes Lunny, said, “The income raised from the two ballots will be used to help us with our work with the families of people with a learning disability throughout Northern Ireland.  We would like to thank the IFA for their excellent support and especially for giving us some match tickets free of charge.  It’s been an great start to our fundraising efforts and we are confident that our relationship with the IFA will go from strength to strength”.
