Abbey Villa FC launched its new Community Relations Strategy in Millisle last night (14 Sep). Work to develop the strategy was supported by the Irish Football Association. Lisa Rickett from the IFA said ‘The IFA is fully committed to community relations through its Football for All campaign. We were delighted when Abbey Villa came to us and asked for our help’.
Jim Spratt, who was appointed as Community Relations Officer as part of this process, enthused ‘This strategy is about doing the right thing. Abbey Villa wants to focus more on the community, be an integral part of it and improve its own facilities to benefit the community as a whole’. Jim went on to thank the many political representatives, local community representatives and members of the governing body who attended the launch. Michelle McIlveen MLA (Chair of the NI Assembly DCAL Committee, Terry Pateman (Vice President of the IFA), and Mervyn Oswald (Mayor of Ards Borough Council) are amongst a number of important figures who were kind enough to take time out of their schedules to support our club and our community through this initiative’. ‘The challenge for Abbey Villa now is to follow through on a series of challenging actions set out in the strategy to help take community relations to the next level. We are already ready working to meet that challenge’.
