REFUGEE RESPECT WORLD CUP 2011

WITH support from UEFA and EU Peace III an Irish FA endorsed Refugee Respect World Cup 2011 was held on recently at Shaftesbury Recreation Centre as part of Refugee Week 2011.

This is the second year that this event has taken place.  There were 11 different groups involved including teams from different homeless hostels, NICRAS, Red Cross and included up to 80 participants from a diverse range of backgrounds.  The Irish Football Association’s Community Relations Department which is funded through Peace III supported the event.

 

Irish FA Community Relations team member Maria Wilson said: “NICRAS and all the volunteers involved deserve real credit for this superb event which reflected the true universal power of football to promote good relations.”

 

The Irish FA’s Community Relations Department works closely with NICRAS, World United, the PSNI, NICEM (NI Council for Ethnic Minorities) and a number of community groups across Northern Ireland to lead anti-racism and anti-sectarian Football For All initiatives.
