NI FANS GIVE RACISM THE RED CARD

BANGOR Northern Ireland Supporters’ Club held a highly successful anti-racism event at Ward Park recently in partnership with World United, a Belfast based and UEFA endorsed volunteer led project which uses the universal power of football to promote Respect for diversity.

The event was well supported by local politicians; the Mayor of Bangor; local community workers and a large crowd of football fans who endorsed the anti-racism and respect messages. The game finished 3-3 between the Bangor Fans Team and the World United Eleven; and was filmed by a community project supported by the Northern Ireland Community Relations Council highlighting innovative and sustainable initiatives which challenge racism.

 

Emma Wilson, a local fan who came out to support the event said: “The game was played with a spirit of respect and fair play. I am glad I brought my young boy to the event as this was a great example of how football should be. We had a great day out and I would like to thank the Bangor boys for the free food after the game.”

 

IFA Head of Community Relations, Michael Boyd, who played for World United in the game said: “Bangor Northern Ireland Supporters’ Club is a great club and their support promoting respect for diversity over the years is a credit to Northern Ireland football.”

 

World United Captain Aruna Djalo, added: “Football can be a powerful tool for promoting respect and tolerance. The Bangor fans were great hosts and ambassadors for football here.”
