Release Date: 09/02/2012
THE members of Beragh Swifts Football Club have come up with a fundraising idea to help support the club with associated costs such as pitch maintenance, equipment and referee and club house costs – and also raise funds for charity.
On the weekend of June 29 and 30, the club will embark on a 70 mile journey that will see them dribble a football from their pitch in Beragh to Windsor Park.
Derek Lyons, who is one of the event organisers, said: “We are looking for volunteers to dribble a football one mile to help us achieve our goal and at the same time raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care – the Irish FA’s Official Charity Partner for 2012 - by doing a collection along the route.
“We are asking for the players, team managers, committee members, supporters of the club and anybody outside the club to come forward and be prepared to dribble a football for one mile and raise sponsorship in the lead up to the event.
“Also we are seeking help with the collection along the route for Marie Curie Cancer Care. If any businesses in the local community or the wider area can help in any way we would be glad to hear from you.”
Geoff Wilson, the Irish FA’s Head of Marketing and Communications added: “The Irish FA is delighted to support this fundraising activity, especially as some of the money raised will go to the Irish FA’s Official Charity of 2012, Marie Curie Cancer Care. I would like to wish the guys all the best in their fundraising efforts.”
If you would like to help in any way, please contact Derek Lyons on 07769621811 or visit the club’s Facebook page.
