ON Saturday, Linfield FC presented a cheque for the value of £5,525.50 to Bernadette McKinley, Health Promotion Officer with Bowel Cancer UK.
The funds were raised by the whole team with 35 players and staff taking part, getting sponsored to not shave for the month. The team were inspired to raise the funds for Bowel Cancer UK as player, Jim Ervin’s father, was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2010.
At the cheque presentation, Bernadette said: “We’re really grateful to the whole team at Linfield FC for raising these funds. Bowel cancer is NI’s second biggest killer, but if diagnosed early, it is very treatable. Funds like this enable us to continue to save lives by raising awareness of the disease.”
If you feel concerned, Bowel Cancer UK is urging you to speak to your doctor as soon as possible. The Bowel Cancer Information and Support service is also available to provide information on all aspects of bowel cancer and bowel health by emailing support@bowelcanceruk.org.uk, Monday – Friday, 10am-4pm.
