UNDER 16 SQUAD NAMED

Release Date: 06/09/2010

Author: By Edwin Ferris (NISFA Press Officer)

NORTHERN Ireland Under 16 Manager Desi Curry has named the squad for two games against Finland next week.

The team will play Finland at the New Grosvenor Stadium on Tuesday 14 September, kick off 7.30 pm, and two days later the teams meet again at Castledawson with a 7.00 pm kick off.

Two players who were capped last season have been selected again.  Goalkeeper Chris Johns made his international debut against Poland in March while midfielder Dominic Ball featured against Malta and Poland.

The Northern Ireland Schools’ Football Association is offering free entrance to any school or youth group wishing to attend the games.  Any group wishing to gain free entrance should contact the NISFA Secretary Edwin Ferris by email edwinferris@yahoo.co.uk to obtain a group pass.

The squad features players with a strong family sporting connection.  Aaron Patterson is the brother of current Northern Ireland International Rory Patterson and like the Plymouth Argyle striker Aaron has the eye for goals.  Defender Reece Glendinning is the son of former Glentoran and Glenavon full back Mark Glendinning.  Scott Nixon, who is on the books of Linfield, feels at home with the club as family members George, Matt and Davy were Blue favourites in the past.

After the Finland games, Curry will whittle the squad down to 18 for the Victory Shield campaign.  The Sky Sports Victory Shield competition begins with Northern Ireland facing Scotland at Livingston on Friday 1st October, kick off 7.35 pm, in a game which will be televised live by Sky TV.
