NATIONAL GAMES DEVELOPMENT DAY

Release Date: 25/08/2010

Author: By Gillian Curry

MALLUSK Playing Fields will this weekend play host to a National Games Development Day organised by the Northern Ireland Boys’ Football Association (NIBFA) in partnership with the Irish FA’s Grassroots Team.

120 teams and 1,200 boys (aged from Under 8’s to Under 11’s) from across the country will take part in the 7-a-side event on Saturday.

“The small sided games are an effective method for developing ball skills and game awareness because it increases opportunities for players to have contact with the ball and to both attack and defend without the tactical regimentation that can occur in 11v11 football,” said Irish FA Grassroots Manager, Ian Stewart.

Gerry McKee, the Development Officer for the NIBFA added: “The National Games Development Day provides a fun day out as a first experience on the football pathway.  It is an opportunity for the young players to develop a keen interest and ideally to increase long term participation in the game.”
