The Carnbane Youth League Annual Meeting on 28 June welcomed the proposals to introduce 9 v 9 football for under 12’s next season.
The Carnbane Youth League has recently been going through a transformation in response to the many changes that affect clubs and voluntary organisations who provide sporting opportunities and competitions.
The decision to introduce 9 v 9 football in a league format is a bold yet seemingly commonsense approach to a local league whose members are committed to improve the provision of football and establish a development model whereby the nurturing of talent and the appeal of sport become synergized.
Moving from the current 7 V 7 format, the Carnbane Youth League committee felt that the gap that young players had to overcome to play a full 11 v 11 match was too much and based on consultation with the IFA and the local Grassroots Development Officer, together with a raft of documents and surveys from other European Associations and clubs the decision to support the 9 v 9 format for under 12’s was unanimous.
The Carnbane Youth League now offers the following development pathway:
Co-operative Insurance Games Development Centre Under 8’s 5-a-side
Co-operative Insurance Games Development Centre Under 9’s 5-a-side
League Programme Under 10 & 11 7-a-side
League Programme Under 12 9-a-side
League Programme Under 13-16 11-a-side
The Carnbane Youth League committee is a voluntary body and is keen to offer partnerships and friendship to others who promote sporting opportunities please contact in the first instance, the Irish FA Newry and Mourne Grassroots Development Officer, Malcolm Roberts on 07894614301 or email: mroberts@irishfa.com
