DUNDONALD HIGH WIN DALE FARM SCHOOLGIRLS’ LEAGUE

Release Date: 15/03/2010

DUNDONALD High defeated St Colm’s High School to claim the Year 10/11 Dale Farm Belfast Schoolgirls’ League.

Melissa Galloway fired Dundonald into an early lead when she drilled the ball from close range past Jenna Kerr in the St Colm’s goal. Moments later Kerr denied Dundonald a second when she got down low to parry a shot from Codie Bruton.  A minute before the half-time whistle Bruton got on the score sheet when she blasted the ball past Kerr making the score 2–0.

Dundonald wrapped the match up within two minutes of the restart when Bruton added a second goal after she blasted the ball from long range. Five minutes later Galloway scored Dundonald’s fourth when she collected the ball on the half way line and ran directly towards the goal, slotting the ball under Aine McIlhone in goals. Galloway completed her hat-trick moments before the final whistle when she curled the ball into the top corner of the net. Final score 5–0.

Speaking after the event PE teacher Brian Mawhinney said: “We have enjoyed the league immensely. All of the games have been hard-fought and the standard of football has risen substantially.

"Everyone in the school was excited by the girls’ win; we even got a special announcement over the school tannoy. This group of girls really deserve their success, they are a joy to coach; hard-working, tough-tackling, and skilful! They are such a committed and close-knit group that working with them is easy.”
