CLUB ENJOYS PREMIER HOSPITALITY

Release Date: 11/03/2010

EIGHTEEN members of the Omagh Saturday Club travelled down to Dungannon to watch the Carling Premiership clash between the Swifts and Ballymena.

The young people take part in a variety of fun activities including football coaching in partnership with the Irish Football Association on the last Saturday of every month in Omagh Leisure Complex.

Stephen Erskine the IFA’s Grassroots Development Officer for Omagh District Council said: “The amount of hard work going on in the volunteer sector within the Omagh District Council area is fantastic and especially in disability programmes, myself and the IFA are only too happy to help to provide opportunities such as this visit to Stangmore Park.

“Dungannon Swifts were great hosts and extra praise must go to Rodney McAree, Dixie Robinson and all the playing staff for braving the elements to meet the group after the match. The inclement weather did not lend itself to ideal playing conditions, but everyone really enjoyed their night out especially as the swifts grabbed a last minute winner!  However, none of this would have been possible without Margaret Wilkinson and her team of volunteers, their dedication and enthusiasm is inspirational to us in the football community.”

The club hopes to engage in further visits on the sporting calendar, with a trip to an International match now in their agenda.  Margaret added that “the highlight off the group’s night was meeting the players and getting their photograph taken with the Swifts squad, for most it was their first every time at a football match and they will remember it fondly for a very long time.”
