On Wednesday 3 March 2010, The Mayor of Newry and Mourne District Council, Councillor John Feehan hosted a small reception in the Council Chamber for Members of the soccer team within the school.

 The team recently became Mourne Schools Indoor 5-A-Side Champions.

The school has availed of soccer coaching over the past number of years.  Since Spring 2008 the coaching has been facilitated by the Grassroots Development Centre and delivered by Mr John Bird of Warrenpoint Town FC as part of a pilot scheme to promote Club/school partnerships.

The objective of this pilot is to introduce and familiarise local schools with a local soccer club and to encourage greater community cohesion between education and voluntary sports coaching providers.

Mayor John Feehan said “I would like to congratulate the pupils, John Bird, Warrenpoint Town FC, and Tracy McConnell, teacher responsible on the tremendous amount of work that went into achieving the title of Mourne Schools Indoor 5–A-Side Champions.  I would like to congratulate the school for the continuous support and commitment to providing quality coaching opportunities for the pupils within the school.”
