CARNEGIE GIRLS SCHOOLS CUP

Release Date: 04/03/2010

Hat trick hero Craig secures a quarter final place for Carrick Grammar in the Carnegie Senior Cup.

Carrick Grammar secured a place in the quarter finals of the Carnegie Senior Cup following a 3 – 1 victory over DevenishCollege at Mid Ulster Sports Arena, Cookstown on Wednesday.

Devenish College started the game well and dominated the first half with Rhonda McIlwaine controlling much of the play in the central midfield area.  Gradually Carrick began to play their way into the game and finished the first half strongly.

Carrick’s Rebekah Craig got her first goal of the game within minutes of the restart when she dribbled the ball from her own half, beating at least five players before slotting the ball past the goalkeeper.  Carrick applied more pressure, and another attack ended with Rebekah Craig scoring her second goal after she latched onto a rebound off the cross bar.

Moments later Devenish went close to scoring when Rhonda Mcllwaine hit a free kick from 40 yards out, but Carrick goalkeeper Jen Rodgers was in the right position to push the ball past the post. The Devenish pressure finally paid off and Abbey Campbell scored after a fine solo run. Devenish continued to search for the equaliser, but against the run of play Craig intercepted the ball on the edge of the penalty box and curled it into the top corner of the goal. Final score Devenish College 1 v 3 Carrick Grammar.
