ST JOSEPHS WIN DALE FARM LEAGUE

The Dale Farm Belfast Schoolgirls’ Year 8/9 league concluded on Tuesday 2nd March 2010 at Olympia Leisure Centre and east Belfast school St Joseph’s College put in an impressive performance to claim the title.

From kick off St Joseph’s dominated their final league game against St Colm’s High. Four goals a piece for Lauren Mulligan and Jacqueline Kelly were enough to secure victory, with St Colm’s forward Una Prentergast scoring a consolation hat trick. Final score St Josephs 8 – 3 St Colm’s.

Speaking after the match PE teacher Danielle Hegarty commented,

“Girls’ football has really taken off in our school over the last two years, and the pupils have benefited greatly from the highly organised competitions run by the IFA. I would like to thank Jackie Blyth and her staff for organising all the matches, pitches and referees”

“I am delighted with the Year 8/9 team’s success and we hope to continue to raise the profile of girls’ football in St. Joseph’s College”

Jackie Blyth, IFA Women’s Football Assistant and organiser of the Dale Farm Belfast Schoolgirls’ league spoke after the event and commented,

“The standard of football in this league has improved so much over the weeks and I am delighted forSt Joseph’s.  The league was extremely tight and the teams pushed each other all the way.  There is such a demand for school leagues throughout Northern Irelandand I would hope that we can deliver on these next year.  Once again I would like to thank Dale Farm for their continued support, without which we would not be able to deliver all the events.  Their partnership is helping us to put girls’ and women’s football on the map”.
